This week I used these red herrings with my Year 11 class. I printed them out and then laminated them. They were then shown a number of different management techniques of avalanches. When they saw the "red herring", they had to hold the card up. It worked really well as the students were paying close attention and trying to figure out if I had tricked them - some of them did fall for it. They were much more engaged and I will be using these red herrings again with my KS3 classes to see how it works with them.
